ORGANIZING TIPS OF THE MONTH: JULY 2006
Declare your Independence from Summer Clutter
- Keep a laundry basket that has perforated sides to contain pool toys in the garage.
- Install a rack of multiple coat hooks outside the family entry door to hold swim goggles, flotation vests, and sun hats.
- Place first aid supplies in a plastic zip bag to grab and go on all your summer outings.
- Have family members leave their shoes on a shoe rack outside the entry door—keep sand, dirt, and grass out of the house.
- Install a wire shoe rack on your garage wall. Slip garden gloves, hats, aprons, and garden shoes over the shoe holders so you can easily retrieve those items when you need them.
- Designate tote bags for each activity—pool, day camp, exercise, etc.
- Place your take-out menus in clear page protectors and insert them in a binder. What is usually a jumble of papers can then be stored neatly near the phone.
- When you are finished viewing your vacation photos, place them in a photo-safe box with dividers noting the date and subject. If you do a scrapbook, your photos will be easily identified and accessible.
- The days are free from school, so this is a good time to take time with your children to decide which toys and clothes to keep and which ones should find a new home.
- Do not strive to be perfectly organized. Good enough is good enough. Enjoy your summer!
