ORGANIZING TIPS OF THE MONTH: JANUARY
Favorite Places to Buy Organizing Products

It's a new year and you are ready for a fresh start by organizing your home. After you sort and purge what you have, you may need to purchase some containers and other nifty products to organize the things you want to keep. Here are some of my favorite sources. Let me know if you shop other great places for organizing products.

  • The Container Store: www.containerstore.com Nirvana for those who love all things organized. Everything from drawer dividers to luggage racks. Great sales on Elfa shelf and closet systems too.
  • Target: www.target.com Stylish containers with good variety and colors. Useful shelf and cubical storage. Reasonably priced armoires to hide crafts and toys in style.
  • Ikea: www.ikea.com Innovative products at low prices. A ton of ideas for the kitchen, closet, office, laundry and kids' rooms. Good selection of bookshelves and storage benches. Check how displayed products have held up to customer handling before deciding what to purchase.
  • Pottery Barn: www.potterybarn.com Lots of stylish pieces for organizing the home office and craft room. Love the benches for the family entry. Perfect for book bags, coats, and shoes.
  • Costco: www.costco.com Their chrome wire shelves can't be beat. They can be configured as one 6-shelf unit or two 3-shelf units on wheels. Perfect for the basement or garage, but work well in a dorm or craft room too. Costco also sells plastic containers in bulk.
  • Hobby Lobby; Michael's; JoAnn's: www.hobbylobby.com , www.michaels.com , www.joann.com I know it's cheating to put 3 stores on one line, but all offer a nice selection of containers and hobby organizers. Plus these stores often have sales and generous coupons.
  • Office Max; Office Depot; Staples: www.officemax.com , www.officedepot.com , www.staples.com All have expanded their office organizing products beyond the ubiquitous black plastic. A source for file drawers other than metal.
  • Cost Plus World Market: www.worldmarket.com Good prices and variety of baskets, wine racks, trunks, and shelf units that you don't see at other stores. Stock changes frequently.
  • Bed, Bath and Beyond: www.bedbathandbeyond.com A surprising variety of organizing products for kitchen and bath. Buy it when you see it-inventory turns over quickly. Get on their mailing list for coupons.
  • Online Shopping: www.organize.com , www.SeeJaneWork.com , www.onlineorganizing.com , www.StacksAndStacks.com When you can't find what you need in stores, take a look at these sites. All have a huge inventory of organizing paraphernalia, books, and more.
